Fancy Meeting You Here

If you can’t get into Rosemary Clooney and Bing Crosby, circa 1959, singing jazzy, class versions of tunes like “I Can’t Get Started,” “You Came a Long Way from St. Louis,” and “Brazil”… well, then you’re not me. We stood beneath an amber moon… and softly murmured someday soon/we kissed and clung together then/tomorrow was another day/the morning found me miles away/with still a million things to say/now when twilight dims the sky above/recalling thrills of our love/there’s one thing I’m certain of/RE-turn!–I willll–to old–Brazillll

From today’s Boston Globe: “After witnessing Boston’s four-game sweep, Tampa Bay manager Lou Piniella said, ”Thank God we don’t come in here anymore. I’ve heard enough ‘Sweet Caroline.’ “

Old Brown Dog

It’s about time that I sing the praises of Old Brown Dog, a very good beer brewed at one of our favorite places, the Portsmouth Brewery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Old Brown Dog is especially good right from the tap. It’s nice and clean and it’s become my regular order there. You can get it in bottles up here, too. It’s under the Smuttynose label. Incidentally, the food at the Portsmouth Brewery is pretty good, too.
Notable Tofu Experiences

I came across two very enjoyable tofu experiences in the space of three days. It’s worth sharing with you. First, there was the organic tofu yumminess at The Elephant Walk in Cambridge on Sunday. THAT was really good… spicy and fresh with crisp vegetables. MMMMmmm. (Incidentally, I really liked their downstairs bar, which still brings back memories for me of the early Terri and Ezra days at Finnegan’s Wake, and I see us going there a lot in the future.) Then last night Ez and I ordered in from East Asia in Powderhouse Circle. I got the Royal Tofu. I had read that their tofu is especially worth trying because they make it themselves. My Royal Tofu lived up to the hype. It didn’t look like much, but then I started to actually eat it. So good! The tofu is very fresh, springy, and porous. It soaks up the sauce and is just really yummy. On the strength of the Royal Tofu (just one of at least 4 tofu offerings on their menu!), East Asia is a new order-in favorite.

I now have my own Flickr account, where I am posting pictures I’ve taken, either on my own camera or on Ezra’s. I’m loading up photos I took on our recent vacation to France. If you like, you can have a look at http://www.flickr.com/photos/tercat/.

Finally, one of the first TV shows that totally captured my imagination, Moonlighting, is coming to DVD. The first season will be released in May. I am pre-ordering on Amazon. Fans have literally been waiting years for this. Promises were made and broken, but it seems it’s finally official!
Northern Exposure

Ezra and I have been watching the second season of Northern Exposure on DVD. It looks a tiny bit dated (though I wonder if it kind of did even when it was new, given the locale they’re depicting and whatnot), but it’s kind of delightful. It’s well-written and fun… and it reminds me of my mother. I love Ed.
