Tuesday, May 9th.  Show starts at 9PM.  It’s 18+ and tickets are $8.  Ez and I will be there at least long enough to see Hail Social.  You probably heard them the last time you were at our house, and you probably liked them and thought, “Wow–who is this?”  They are really good live and it seems Boston has not yet figured this out.  Come see them!  And me!

I never wanted a pony

I’ve never quite understood why a lot of young girls get really into horses. I was never one of those girls. I don’t get it. Now, it should be obvious that I have nothing in particular against horses, but they never captured my imagination. I must have been absent that day.

Mere days after I lauded his oratorical skills, Barack Obama won a Grammy award. No kidding! Thanks to Ez for the heads up.

Hillary Says What a Bunch of Us Have Been Saying for Years

In a recent speech, Hillary Clinton talks about how the Bush administration has used fear in attempts to maintain power and silence critics. The quotable quote for me is: “Since when has it been part of American patriotism to keep our mouths shut?”

And here’s my added thought: Surely I can’t be the only person concerned about creeping authoritarianism in this country. Don’t think it couldn’t happen here.

A Boring Super Bowl, eh?

Well, it sure seems like a lot of people didn’t think it was so boring (click here).

…he’s worth repeating. Barack Obama gets to the point: “There’s one way to guarantee that the judges who are appointed to the Supreme Court are judges that reflect our values. And that’s to win elections.”

Baby, that’s devotion!

Broadcast’s latest album, Tender Buttons, just keeps getting better. I’ve always liked them, and I like their other albums, but I feel like this is the record I’ve been hanging around for them to make. It’s very good. It’s got all the things a good album should have–it all fits together. The songs are good and the lyrics are good. They stand up to repeated listenings.

On some of their other records, it almost seems like they purposely crafted the sound to create a feeling of discomfort and distance. I guess you could say that listening to one of those albums sometimes feels like being on the outside looking in. It all looks pretty interesting, but as a listener I don’t always feel welcome. This album still feels like Broadcast, but there’s more depth, and the listener isn’t held so much at arm’s length.

Whatever a Terri-album is, this is one.

They’re yummy. That’s about as much observation as I can muster at 1:36 AM.
