Gettin’ the word out

Okay, I know this is a little silly, but I figure, why not? I am looking for a back issue of Rebecca knitting magazine. This is an old one, so I would need it with the English language insert. (It’s a German magazine and they only started publishing the magazine entirely in English a few years ago.) So, the issue I’m looking for is #8. I think it’s from around 1999. It’s not the kids and babies issue, which for some reason is also numbered 8. It’s this one:

I know it’s out of print. I’ve hunted in all of the obvious places I can think of online. If you happen to come across a copy with the English insert or know where I could get one, please let me know. If you see it in a shop, I’ll pay ya back!

I finally got my two rolls of film developed. Both are full of pictures from leisure time during our January trip to France.

Some are black and white…

Memories live in photo envelopes

I investigated the contents of a stack of photo envelopes on my dresser and found that I’d never scanned a bunch of them. Here’s a little peek at a few from the first batch to meet with the scanner.

From a long-forgotten walk in a dream:

Memories of memories:mendad
Me and my dad in the backyard in State College. I’m holding a camera that my grandfather picked up in Germany during WWII. My father gave it to me. Ezra took this picture.

Unfriendly reminder

Flipping through the Boston Sunday Globe this morning, I was reminded once again of some of the things I hate about this place. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate where I am, but there’s a certain Boston vibe that I have never accepted as my own. I’ve come to terms with it… anyway, here’s how it struck me this morning. I don’t like the tone of the Boston Globe. The Sunday Globe magazine is reliably terrible. The whole tenor of the paper falls in line with the part of Boston that states the obvious as if it were brilliant and the snobby as if it were obvious. I hope that, as Corey (Lily Taylor) says in the film Say Anything, “That’ll never be me.”

I know I should cite some examples here… it’s painful. Pick up a copy of the paper (maybe just borrow one) or better yet… try to get through an issue of Boston Magazine. Ugh.

Have I mentioned lately how much I adore my kitties? I think I need to say it again.

And some much beloved family cats no longer with us… they still have a special place in my life.

Jasper was the first kitty in my life, and he will always be the Zen master of all kitties.

Recently departed; we miss this sweetie.

Somewhere along the way, my family figured out the mysterious and wonderful charms and the calming power of cats. I feel lucky to have had and to continue to have so many connections with these fuzzy, amazing creatures.

A little knit thing

So last night I started imagining up a sweater design.  I don’t know if it’ll ever come to be, but I’m starting to think about all the different pieces of design and patterns that I can put together in different ways.  Maybe…  It’s not like I’m hard up for things to knit!

It’s getting better…

This day started out poorly. I don’t know why, but I just felt miserable. Things have started looking up, though…

As this is sort of a random post, I may as well throw in a pathetic little plea. I know there are a few of you out there who read this but never post comments. It always makes my day when people do comment. I know it’s silly, but humor me. It’s easy to comment. Just click on the little comment link and it’s pretty self-explanatory from there (I think).

I’ll see if I can post something later with a bit more substance!!

Work and Play

I’ve been working quite a bit of late. Ez and I both worked on Sunday and Monday… no special President’s Day vacation for us.

I’ve been taking lots of breaks, though, mostly to knit and to watch The Comic Strip Presents. I LOVE it. LOVE IT! I am obsessed.

Dawn French and Peter Richardson in The Comic Strip Presents: Consuela

Nigel Planer and Adrian Edmondson in The Comic Strip Presents: South Atlantic Raiders, Part I

I’ve been fairly obsessed with knitting lately, too. At the moment I’m splitting my knit time between the sweater for Ezra and another cable project for me.

The back of a cabled sweater I’m making for myself.

And then there is the pile of books at my bedside…
