Finished knitting project
Woo hoo! I have finished another knitting project–mid-summer, no less. I had hoped to finish a little white dress for my niece Eva in time to give it to her when we first met her in Montreal this past April, but I couldn’t quite make it–sewing up the pieces and finishing all the trim takes time! So, this past weekend I worked on the dress in the car on the way to Saratoga Springs to see Simon, Frances, and Eva. I finally wove in the last of the ends on Sunday morning in our hotel in Glens Falls, and this is the result:

It’s my first-ever knit dress, and I learned a lot in the process of sewing up the pieces and putting on the finishing touches. I modified the pattern a little, too.

Love it, love it, love it. The trim is sweet without being frilly. Did you block it, and if so, how? (And if not, I bow before your perfectly even stitches!) I’ve had mixed results with my makeshift blocking attempts.
I didn’t block it to measurements, but measured as I went. The edges rolled, so I had to lightly press them flat (using low heat and sprtizes of water under a smooth pillowcase) in order to sew the pieces together. Before attaching the trim, I pinned it, eyeballing the measurements, and made up for any discrepancies (where there were more stitches on the dress than there were on the trim) as I went. The finishing instructions in the pattern are pretty loose. I’m finding that with finishing I just have to try things out until something works, which is why it sometimes takes so long!
Oh, that is so pretty!!! A perfect little heirloom for Eva!
Beautiful! I wish my stitches were that even!
Thanks, Stephanie! I didn’t know that you were a knitter, too!
Lovely! If you get any photos with Eva in the dress - please post them!
