Welcome to the new home of The Shy Turnip. Extraordinary thanks to Ezra for making it all work.
I’m terribly sleepy at the moment, so it’s off to bed for the Turnip. See you here again very soon…
Epiphany

Ezra reminded us all that Friday was Epiphany. As if we needed any reason at all to go have a Friday night extravaganza, The Hyphens were playing at the Kirkland as well. So, I stole Ezra and Amy away from work and we met up with Doug at nearby Dali. And I have to say here that I can’t understand why it’s been so long since Ez and I last dined there. I guess it’s kind of a special thing, and if you go there all the time you get burned out or something. Anyway, the lights were twinkling and the colors were bursting and the happy murmurs were murmuring for us. I attempted to take pictures of the colorful stained glass above the door and the lamps and flowers and such at the bar with my new Holga, but I suspect my optimism will get the better of me this time, as it was probably much too dark to get any good shots. The D70 probably could have handled it, but the potential surreality of the Holga seemed like a good idea. I also tried to snap a framed grouping of butterflies behind me once we were seated. Our waiter asked if I was using a Holga–I guess they’re all the rage now. I’ve still only taken a few pictures with mine. It’s all very experimental at the moment!
So, Dali. It was a sensory delight, of course. Good conversation, lots of yummy wine (for me, 3 glasses is lots), and garlic soup, goat cheese, buttery mushrooms, sauced-up eggplant, almond and more almond dessert… mmmm… I was swooning when the meal came to an end and we headed over to the Kirkland (and I apologize to my friends if I got carried away cooing about Barcelona–it happens a few times a year).
I’d never been to the Kirkland before. It’s a pretty nice space, really. The bands were a rather mixed bag. The Mickey Bliss Organ Combo (Ezra tells me this is what they were calling themselves) was kind of fun as far as being a bar band doing covers centered around a Hammond ham. The other two bands besides The Hyphens were (I’m sorry if you’re reading this, and it’s just my opinion–so ignore it if you must!)… well… they were pretty terrible. The Hyphens set was fun, though. They definitely seemed more experienced than the bands that played before and after. Finally, I had my D70 with me for a Hyphens show.
Oh, and I should mention that I was nearly taken down by a guy who was breakdancing during their set. Didn’t get a picture of that, alas.

Let’s talk knitting

I want to talk about my knitting. I’ve been wanting to, but my last project–knitting Christmas stockings for Kim, Glenn, and Hope–was a surprise, so I couldn’t post about it here until I actually finished the stockings and gave them to Kim, Glenn, and Hope on Christmas Eve. I meant to take a picture of the finished stockings before I actually wrapped them up, but things got a bit nutty and busy and I totally forgot. Kim has promised to photograph them for me so I can post the picture(s) and prove that yes, I really do knit! It probably seems like I just talk about it.
Now that the stockings are done, I’m back to working on the blanket/throw I’ve been knitting for a while. It’s about 3/4 done and I kind of love it. It’s this cabled thing I’m doing in Jo Sharp yarn… very smooth, soft, and elastic. I posted pictures of it when it was only 1/3 to 1/2 way done back in December 2004, but since this blog is still in the piece of crap category functionality-wise, I can’t even direct you to a nice link to go see. Ugh. Anyway, I still have the same additional projects in various stages of incompletion, and there’s another (surprise) that I’d like to start, too.
