Finally

Well, I finally went and got myself a digital SLR. Ez and I went to the camera shop in Davis Square yesterday, and I purchased their last Nikon D70. The new D70s models are in, but they’re considerably more expensive, and not that different. I got a pretty good deal on the D70, although for various reasons I am very unhappy to discover that I may not be able to get the $100 mail-in rebate. I shan’t discuss that further…

But the camera is exciting. It’s not so heavy as I thought it would be. Yesterday Ez and I wandered around Cambridge, and we took a bunch of pictures. Mind you, I hadn’t quite figured out how the meter works (even though it’s pretty darn simple), so the exposures are a mixed bag. But, it was a thrill to just take so many pictures, and I am liking some of them, especially considering I’d only just purchased the camera hours before I took the pix. I figured out the meter this morning. Here are a few photos from yesterday.

This one’s a little on the dark side, and it’s big, but I just like it.

Daddy mystery

I took a few more of this scene, and Ez and I agree that they look better big.

If you want to see a bunch more, you can see all my photos posted on flickr (taken on my new camera, on Ezra’s camera, and on my film SLR). Hopefully my pictures will improve as I learn more about using the camera.
