My Classmate!

Most of you reading this already know that one of my classmates from State College, Doug Sweetland, is an animator for Pixar. I just saw The Incredibles over the weekend and I loved it. It’s so cool to see his name go by in the credits. From what I remember of him and his art, the film definitely bears his mark! He was in lots of my classes, including art classes in high school. Wherever you are, Doug, it’s so great to see that you’re doing what it seems you always wanted to do… and doing it really well.
Couldn’t find that much about him on IMDB, but he has apparently won some very cool sounding awards. Not really surprising. Actually, surfing around, it looks like he is at the top of his field. Again, not really surprising. I’m so impressed!
Check out the film if you haven’t already.
Golly

I am all over the web now! I guess that’s what happens when you get a silly picture of yourself in The Boston Sunday Globe Magazine…
There was some fantastic thought I had for an entry here in the blog, and naturally it’s slipped my mind completely. It was some meditation or other. Maybe I will remember it once my mind comes back from being blown away that they actually published that picture.

Bush’s bunker busters get the shove–at least, for now. “If we are to convince other countries to forgo nuclear weapons, we cannot be preparing to build an entire new generation of nuclear weapons here in the U.S.”
The New MOMA

I loved the old Museum of Modern Art. I loved going there on field trips and with my father (unless my memory is twisted, I feel like I remember going there once with my dad when I was in high school). This museum opened my mind and struck my imagination. So, when they closed it down for renovation, I was a bit nervous. I get to Manhattan every now and then, but don’t get out to Queens, where temporary exhibits were on during the renovation, so often.
Now the newly renovated museum is open. I don’t know if I’ll love the building the way I loved the old one, but I am very anxious to get down there and see it. They say it’s twice as large as the old museum, and if that means more art for me, I’ll likely be happy.

This is a beautiful thing. Bridgestone helps keep a needy dolphin on the move, as they “specialize in foots of sort.”

Unfortunately, I cannot be surprised that the Bush people are pushing to fundamentally alter our government, bit by bit, so they can seize even more power and come ever closer to having no one to answer to. See here.
This, in particular, makes me sick:
“Republicans defended their rules changes, saying that the election this month validated their agenda and that Democrats need to be less obstructionist.” The election was not exactly a landslide, and voicing one’s opinion in a democracy, perhaps especially when that opinion differs from the opinions of those in power, is not obstruction, it’s participation, and it’s what this thing is supposed to be about. Maybe somebody should be obstructing!
Two Piggie Friends

I only have one Toot and Puddle book, but I love them. You really must see them. They’re just too cute. Yes, I love them all for myself (no wee kiddies around, really–just me!). Here’s the cover of the book I have, I’ll Be Home for Christmas. It’s very sweet!

What can I say? Their expressions are priceless, and the stories are just so nice. I’m a sucker for nice. I don’t want to give too much away. Basically, these two pigs are best friends, and they live together in Woodcock Pocket. One likes to travel and the other likes to stay at home, and as the title suggests, getting home to one’s piggie friend is the main gist of this particular book. I’m thinking perhaps I should check out some of the other titles as well. (The author’s name is Holly Hobbie, for cryin’ out loud!)
And yes, I am starting to think about the holidays. This should be no surprise to most of you!
